Creative Cartouches

This project is perfect for learning about Ancient Egyptian history in a hands on and creative way. Students will learn about cartouches, decode a message using real hieroglyphs, and then design and make their own names in the style of the Ancient Egyptians.

Length of Project: 3 hours

Suggested Age: 8 - 12 year olds

Materials Needed: Cardboard, Hieroglyphic alphabet sheets, Pencils, Rubbers, PVA glue, Paintbrushes, Low-temp glue guns, Aluminium foil, Metallic paint pens or paints, Printed examples of real cartouches and hieroglyphs
